Megan just died. OH MY GOD. The mutated monster helping her hide. The Sidhe finding them. Her going down in a blaze of vengeful glory. Their pain is the reason they got her quicker, but she stood up to them. This one hit worse than any other incident in the Greylands up until now. Wow...

The tension is building. Worlds will merge? I’m nervous. The names still confused me a bit. But that’s just because they’re different than what I’m used to. Loving this book!

•It’s so entertaining to me that Safi is in utter disbelief about sea foxes. She’s a witch who can magically tell truth from lie, but evil sea serpents? That’s a step too far. lol

•Cahr Awen: one of two witches born from the origin wells, able to cleanse even the darkest evils. 500 years without one.

•I love Susan Dennard’s intricate world, I feel like there’s too many characters and new vocabulary. I need a glossary and map to grasp the full breadth of the story.

•Are voicewitches like cell phones? Walkie talkies? Witchy talkies? (gotta love a good dad joke)

•Safi’s witchery makes her a target to all: either a political tool to be enslaved and used, or a political threat to be eliminated.

•Safi and Iseult are heretics: unregistered witches.

•I love the nautical, seaside scenery of the story. Just a nice change from typical urban storytelling.

•Wordwitches: speak all tongues, and typically deal in business with secrets.

•Safiya and Iseult setting fire pit traps for 32 guards with crossbows? Badass witches.
•Safi is a Truthwitch: she’s able to decipher between truth and lie; between reality and deception.
•Safi always shit on by seagulls? 🐦💩😂
•Masters of disguise. From peasants to students? That’s quite a jump.
•Bloodwitch: can smell witchery within a witch’s blood and can track it across continents.

So far, I’m very intrigued. It’s an intricate world with so many names being thrown around. Instead of slowly building the world around the characters, it seems we’ve been dropped in the middle and are meant to catch up - which is similar to the frantic energy Safi and Iseult are feeling. So that’s very interesting, actually.

I love Joy Behar so much. She’s the liberal, progressive, funny woman I’ve always been drawn towards. I’ve even been guessing what’s she’s about to say in the book so far and been pretty close a majority of the times I’ve tried.

Enjoying the word association take on this book, and laughing at the chaos is good medicine for the tired soul. Can’t wait to delve further into the Trump A-Z Guide.

So far, I’m so enthralled in this chapter of the Peculiar stories. The land is so dark and gloomy. I am suspicious of everyone they meet... I hope the films continue so I can see an interpretation of this world.

This book was so fun to read, and I loved that I read it after I saw the movie, because I got to picture the characters as I had already seen them in such vivid detail - and the deviations from the source material gave me something new to imagine when I was reading, so the story kept an element of being fresh, but still familiar. I can't wait to dive into Book 02 in the series!

After seeing @jessethereader and his adoration of this series, and after seeing the film, I decided to check the books out. I'm loving the story so far, and how outcast Jacob feels. I'm rooting for this peculiar boy.

I absolutely love this book. There's nothing like that 1st book in your favorite series that discovers the whole world that you're about to become obsessed with. Harry was a forgotten boy who found himself and his inner magic. I guess I hope I relate in some existential, human way. I'm on my journey. If you haven't read Harry Potter, DO IT. I mean, really. You're way behind. 20 years to be exact. 📖👓⚡️

I started re-reading the 1st Harry Potter book on Harry's birthday this year.
It is such an interesting task revisiting the innocent beginnings of some of your favorite characters, knowing the journey that lies ahead for them.
J.K. Rowling truly cast a magical spell over readers around the globe when she dreamed this world into reality.
Aiming to finish this book today.

I'm understanding the book more now. I still think it would be nice to feel like there was a progressing narrative, but hearing each of Jenny's circumstances individually and her ways of coping or not coping with them is quite beautiful and funny.

This book is insane. Jenny Lawson is quite funny, but her stories don't really make much sense to me. I can't keep track of where this is going. But, perhaps, that is the point.

This book was such a beacon of positive thinking and laughing your way into your life's next steps. A gay man in a world that doesn't want to see him thrive, Ross's love lights up every room and wins over the harshest of skeptics. May we all have even a slice of Ross's light within ourselves.

Rooting for Tonya Harding, meeting Britney fuc*ing Spears, and the uprising of Ross Squash? I love how random, joyful, and FUNNY Ross manages to be in all of his life's situations. Almost done with the book.

Truly loving hearing Ross's story about how he got involved in showbiz and how he climbed up the rungs of the tv ladder. Accidental extra plates behind potted plants? Sounds like a meal plan to me! lol

This book is so refreshing for me. I just finished reading a horror book ("The Call" by Peadar O'Guilin), so this comedy-riddled memoir is just what I needed to keep a good balance. Ross's beginnings are similar to mine in that he was a very gay kid growing up in a small, rural town. It's just so cool to absorb the story of someone who practically walked your shoes all the way to Hollywood.
