What I appreciate Oe is the same I appreciate about Saramago
They really show that fiction does not necessarily have to have a convenient shape or be clearly accessible for a reader to connect with it.
The humanity of the characters and the authenticity of their explorations is what makes these stories compelling and makes their formal experimentations pay off emotionally and aesthetically.
