Hearing Fuller talk about his fast rise as a copy boy is every bit as exciting as I expected it would be, and I'm even more excited to jump into his rise as a crime reporter. I've known about Fuller's love of the newspaper life from his book THE DARK PAGE and his movies, but hearing him talk about his time there in the first person is touching.

This latest chapter ends on a surprisingly sentimental note. Love it.

Just a few pages in and Fuller's autobiography opens with a bang and reads like a firecracker, like any good Fuller story does. A hell of a read so far.

Holy cow, what an opening. Establishing the titular diamond's importance through a life and death struggle between the two men who discovered it, hundreds of years before the main narrative.

When the book started, my daughter (7) wasn't sure that she wanted to go on because she thought it was too frightening.

But now after reading the chapter DEEPER MAGIC FROM BEFORE THE DAWN OF TIME she tells me that it's getting less scary.

Oh boy...my watchlist is about to get a whole lot longer...

It doesn't get much better than a drug runner on jet skis firing an Uzi at a hitman while a shark attacks.

Currently reading to the kids! Man, Edmund is a little jerk.

Gotta say, adding voodoo, drug wars, and the shark's POV vastly improves JAWS 4.

This is over-written as hell, but that's part of what makes it so readable.

Hot damn, Fuller pulling out all the stops in opening his book with a baby accidentally shooting his father in a baby buggy rigged with a gun attached to a pull toy AND a hidden bomb.

I get why the movie changed some things, often for the better, but this book is one of the most riveting reads I've had in a while.

Absolutely absorbed in this Fuller noir. I already love the movie adaptation (SCANDAL SHEET) and the book so far is just the unfiltered Sam Fuller. Riveting.
