Beside A Black Tarn (Brimstone, #5)
"Heckle put Maximillian up on his shoulder to speed their progress...." I don't know about that! Millipedes are so fast. I think they'd probably visit me if I were a character in this book.

For We Are Many (Bobiverse, #2)
I'm not enjoying this, and I was glad to see some reviewers here also liked it a lot less than book one. But I will finish it, since I'm more than halfway done (and it's on audio)

Hexslayer (Hexworld, #3)
Nick is thinking about why he has to avoid witches: "Witches had [...] seduced his brother." But that's not how I remember it!

I don't remember why I wanted to read this, but I like it a lot so far. Thanks, past me!

The Huntsman's Tale (Oxford Medieval Mysteries #3)
The villain in this book is pretty one-dimensional (so far). He's a wealthy landowner who bullies everyone, surrounds himself with sycophants, and sexually assaults young women. At one time I would've found him a very unrealistic character. I miss those days.

This is great so far! A wild & appealing cast of characters in a bizarre and funny situation. I wish I could finish it tonight but I'm getting sleepy.

Either this book is ridiculously bad or I've reached a new level of curmudgeonliness

I don't know about this book.
Quote: "And then, ever so slowly, Blaine replaced his finger with his tongue. Soft and wet, a form of nutrition Killian hadn’t had in so long. Ever."
Now all I can think of is "yeah, I care about...nutrition!"

A Taste of Honey (The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps, #2)
So I'm thinking this is set in the far future of Earth, in Africa? No idea if that's correct, but it makes sense with some details in this and the first book. Something the gods say to Aqib & Femysade made me think of the Hubble Telescope (or a future version of it, I guess). I'm enjoying this more than Sorcerer of the Wildeeps, and now I want a paperback copy of that book too.

Master of Formalities
Arguing with alt-right types:
"I'd be careful if I were you," Lord Kank said. "You're coming dangerously close to insulting my people's most deeply cherished beliefs."
"The fact that you would be careful is precisely why you'll never be me. And I'm not coming close to insulting your beliefs, I'm deliberately doing exactly that. My prerogative to do so is one of my culture's most deeply cherished beliefs."

The reviews were correct - this book was pretty dull until about the midpoint. Now I am really enjoying it.

The Limehouse Text (Barker & Llewelyn, #3)
I am not enjoying this. Why does Barker never challenge anyone's racism? Is the message meant to be that challenging racism isn't a practical thing to do? How else do people's minds ever change? Glad it's a library book.

The Soldier's Scoundrel (The Turners, #1)
Wow, this book is fantastic. The writing style reminds me a little of Captive Prince, and the pairing makes me think of Johnlock - I mean those comparisons as compliments. It doesn't have the thing I sometimes dislike about Johnlock, which is Sherlock being emotionally unavailable.
