I'd forgotten how much Gary Stu fanfic there is in early US writing.

Therefore, because Sanskrit is itself "well formed" (
saṃskṛta
), it is a language that was deliberately constructed and well formed. Does it not seem like a language deliberately constructed by the brahmins to make it difficult for others to partake in their scriptures?

Starting to get serious reviewing burnout and, judging from the upcoming quarter, it's only going to get worse from here on out. I should check out 'The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire' or something for my personal reading. Between my two women's lit classes and my postcolonial one, I can afford it.

Oh patriarchal preacher boy, you're lucky your time was in the midst of the US breed of civil war. My era and I would've spat out your bones.

I'm glad I figured out I'm some kind of bi before this quarter started cause now I can totally crush on my postcolonial short story prof without doing the usual "Oh my appreciation of this very fine woman is all AESTHETIC and FRIENDLY in nature and will REMAIN as such for the REST OF TIME," and instead dive straight into "Yeah I'd tap that so DEAL."

All the forms of an extreme rebellion against a fact of nature seemed preferable to a pain that had not yet been given shape by the words of others, words so simple and commonplace, horribly new and unacceptable.

When a boy picks on you when you're young, the proper thing is to read his mind and know that this is his way of showing affection. When a boy gives you a ring later on, the modest thing is to read his mind and know that this isn't his way of showing actual commitment. I wonder if boys ever feel violated, what with all this reading of their mind that's just assumed to be the right way of things.

I gotta stop thinking about Nightwood while reading this else I get all mopey about things like lost potential and all that ilk. Sigh. At least I have Dictee and Fun Home and Citizen to look forward to.

...Gendun Chopel takes a certain pride in investigating what lies between God and Mammon, those topics that neither the pious nor the pecuniary pursue. The term translated as "the in-between" is the Tibetan term
bardo
, made famous in the West by the so-called
Tibetan Book of the Dead
in describing the borderland between one lifetime and the next.

Had a good talk with one of my profs today about the potentials of my 500 GBBW group when it comes to the more professional and/or official realms of reading and writing. Fingers crossed that this will eventually make the group into something awesome on the academic level.

The fact that Jean Rhys' autobiography is shelved in "Collection of Children's Literature" and "Modern Juvenile Collection" at my library is rather worrisome. Either they miscategorized, or Rhys got a hold of some really good shit at the end of her life.

"To write well about the past is to write something like fantastic fiction. It is the strangeness of the past, rendered with piercing concreteness, that gives the effect of realism."
