Last fifty pages or so: riveting.

I don’t know if I’m taking it all in as it really is a very detailed and methodical ‘life’ but Bate’s precision is compelling and it tells of Clare’s struggles very well. Hoping to finish by the weekend, it’s Tuesday night now, I have under two hundred pages left of this but no doubt, knowing of the poet, it will be sad.

is still reading between certain shows on tv and usually on demand. John Clare by Jonathan Bate has been picked up again, I haven’t bought anything new for ages and it’s the fifth or sixth or so book that has been in the currently reading section with a bookmark in for some long time. Proud!
