The whole "one of the main characters' been dead since before the book started" and almost 70% in, it looks like the reader wasn't supposed to clue in. So it feels like the plot is dragging and the other main character is honestly a bit of an asshole with and without that piece of information.

Why do I always start the year picking books I'm struggling through

I'm confused, there's 385 pages in this edition, and that's taking into account the acknowledgments and blank pages before the end illustration, so I don't know where the 400 is coming from. I do not like being lied to, I'm closed to the end than this, set me freeeeee

I just want to finish this book so I never have to think about it afterwards
