I think I'm going to set this aside for another time. My brain just isn't engaging with it right now.

The first chapter didn't grab me and I'm not even sure exactly how old these two main characters are. The princess is old enough to marry and her friend is old enough to be in the guard, but the way they were talking just now sounded like a couple of 12 year olds joking around. *shrug* I'll keep reading because I want something guaranteed light right now, but I hope to get a better feel for these girls soon.

I finished this last night without meaning to. XD Turns out the last chunk of pages was an apendix of character names and descriptions and then there were several pages with a bunch of quotes from various reviews of the main series. So I finished!

Our power went out for 3 hours this evening (strong thunderstorm and downed trees) so I ended up crocheting by booklight while listening to the audiobook of this. At 2x speed, I listened to somewhere over 5 hours worth of the book (11 chapters and 109 pages) without stopping. I guess that says something for the story that it kept me engaged the whole time. :)

Person: *accuses antagonist of hiring the dude to attack her*

Antagonist: You think me so low, so base, so desperate for attention that i would do something like that?

Me: Absolutely, yes, I do.

Oh, yay! I was legitimately worried for a minute there... (and by a minute, I actually mean almost 10 chapters of worry. :P)

There are some good themes going on here.

Chapter thirty. 0.0 0.0 0.0 After that, I was half hoping I might be able to read fast enough to finish this last night, but I hit midnight and dropped my Kindle on my face. Hopefully tonight I can make more progress or finish because Ava nooooo. Elm, your girl's in trouble, you need to go get her!
