I’ve not been on here much and still need to update my Goodreads with some books I’ve read in the last few months. Been reading more lately

One day I’ll finish this book. But I can’t do it lately without falling into climate despair. I really like the book but yeah, heavy

Getting close to finished. Been really enjoying it.

Definitely worth reading if you’re interested in palaeontology, climate change, extinctions & archaeology. It’s honestly pretty funny and entertaining for a book about mass extinctions. Well written, I think it’s a pretty accessible read for non-fiction on this subject.

Some incredible poetry
Favourite so far is “Without” by Donald Hall, which is heart wrenching, beautiful, and one of the most clever pieces of poetry I’ve ever read.

Other faves:

“Do Not Pick Up The Telephone” by Ted Hughes is a masterpiece in simile & metaphor.

“Ever” by Brenda Shaughnessy haunts me. I can’t describe it.

“No More”by Mary Jo Bang has a final stanza that cuts right through me.

This is giving me so many feels. There’s something very relatable about an AI trying to inhabit a human body.

I wonder how much is autism, or DID, being queer, or if it’s more universal and experienced by many people.

Parenti is doing a good job highlighting the hurdles of revolution, he gives a compelling defence of socialism as it exists and not as it exists in the mind of idealistic purists.

Pretty engrossing, I think it should be required reading for western leftists tbh.

I really like cooking and despite not being very far into the book I feel like it’s already improved it. It’s cool to learn the science behind making food taste nice

This is SO FUCKING GOOD omg.

I mean I am a sucker for queer people in books and a sucker for the enemies to lovers trope. But beyond that, the writing is really good.

Would recommend the audiobook for it, I’m sure it’s great by text too, but the two voice actors do a really good job, hearing these two people correspond is awesome.

I’m enjoying learning about mass extinction events a lot more than I would have thought, this is a pretty easy read, all things considered

I’ve not been listening to this one much lately. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s not overly dark or anything. I guess it’s depressing because it depicts a future that is already out of our reach. That even though a lot of bad things happen, there’s this optimism that we will persevere through it. A faith in things eventually getting better. I don’t have faith in that anymore.

Getting kinda nervous about where this is heading, I'm not sure about the direction. Can't tell if I just dont understand the topic well enough or if he doesn't though lol.

Oh jeez I really liked the story about grief as a disability. If capital had pills they could give workers to just get over loss, you know they would do it. Really illuminates the social model of disability in a brief and poignant story. Not sure if its my favourite yet, but it's up there.

Loving this so far, but im kind of dreading whatever conclusion comes with this book. How do you end a book about biosphere collapse in a way that will feel satisfying? I really hope he nails it.

It's really enjoyable as an audiobook in particular, there's a decent cast of voice actors and they're all really good, audiobooks with casts are always real fun, so that was a nice treat.
