Ehhhhh... The third story, 'All God's Children Can Dance' didn't hold me. It was a bit of a chore to get through it even despite its brevity.

Such strange stories, but so real and honest and insightful. Very emotive, but not at all in an overbearing way. It subtly works it's way inside you as you read.

The first story, 'UFO in Kushiro', was strangely surreal despite the complete normalcy of the events in the narrative. Very peculiar.

Already very fascinating.

There's been a lot of decent humor already, but I just had my first actual audible chortle. Good stuff, good stuff :)

Myeah, It's alright. Nothing mindblowing, but it's solidly enjoyable atm.

'Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius' just filled my head with fuck while I was reading it. If the rest of Borges' works are like this, then GODDAMN! 'The Garden of Forking Paths' was kinda interesting, but less abusive of my grey matter. 'The Lottery in Babylon' was, again, a fascinating idea explored thoroughly and presented intricately.

Urban fantasy much - though the fantasy specifics are feeling pretty nebulous at the moment. It's not blowing me away or anything, but I'll stick with it. I've learned that oftentimes it pays off (greatly) to stick with a Mieville novel through a front-end that's perhaps less-than-amazing, because things tend to just get better and better as the narrative progresses.

I'm enjoying this. It's more of an adventure than the other novels, and I like that it's different. However, it seems to have an *unnecessary* amount of sexualization.

I've picked it up again after finished Kangaroo Notebook. Let's see if that break was enough for me to power through the remaining half

This is *so* weird. It's got a dream-like surreality in the flow of the narrative as well as the actual goings on.

I'm just not getting into this one. Lame.

Oh fuck, oh fuck, that's cool. The action and all was one thing, buts it's the goings on afterward that are really awesome. I can't say anything for fear of spoilers, but hot damn this is cool.

It's no Perdido Street Station, but it's still awesome. It hasn't had a 'shit hitting the fan' moment like that which occurred about half-way through PSS, but it's still been a strong and enjoyable story throughout.

Because I've read virtually nothing by way of nautical fantasy except Keys to the Kingdom: Drowned Wednesday, the whole 'kidnapping' scene reminded me of that. Oh, Dr. Scamandros (whose name I probably can't even spell correctly anymore)

The stories have been more like vignettes - stripped of all but the most integral context and ending so abruptly as to catch me almost by complete surprise.

I was caught off-guard. The prose is peculiar - it is at once rich and detached. I can't think of the right words to describe it, so that will have to do for now. The stories themselves are strange and atmospheric. It wasn't until I finished the first story and realized "oh, that's the end..." that the magnitude of its oddity hit me. I'm enjoying them.

For a while there I was keeping up, following the narrative, making sense of what was directly in front of me. Then, once again, the story went on to contradict itself and just make no damn sense. I'm not enjoying this. I'm trying to, but I can't manage it.

The constantly changing perspective is annoying and makes the story hard to follow at times. Some of the description is so convoluted and/or vague as to force me to re-read passages just to understand what the hell was going on. Characters behave unbelievably stupidly at times. A few gems of ideas shine through despite the messy execution.

Fucking awesome. Will review it properly later.

Thoroughly enjoying this, though (I'll say it again) it's very unlike the other Ambergris books.

The sparsity of pronouns is striking. Is this scarcity a literary device often employed in noir fiction? Peculiar. I'm enjoying the story, even though it's quite dissimilar to the other two Ambergris books. One must be open-minded.
