It’s not terrible, but it’s not great so it’s dragging on. I just don’t like the main character much. She and I have different sets of morals and I don’t like what she has chosen to do, and it just sort of makes me feel icky. Vengeance … but done without knowing all the facts first… and being stubborn and stupid about it. Ugh.

I’m struggling through this book. It’s easy to read technically I guess I just don’t love the characters. But I’ve DNF’d 2 books before this, and it’s better than those at least… so I will keep going.

This series is one of those “never judge a book by its cringe cover” book series. When I look at them, I imagine a cheesy over the top spicy romance book with little else happening besides the romance. Instead this series has incredible world building, an interesting magical system, romance: but it’s A true slow burn. There are monsters and politics and mysteries and dark pasts. Its More than meets the eye.
