this is utterly insane on reread. I feel like my first read was completely superficial in comparison, there are just so many connections and plot threads and motifs and themes that all tie together and link back so effortlessly that are so densely interwoven that it's impossible to get it on first run. I'm only now starting to see how truly formally impressive this is and I already loved the book.

i was expecting something different for a while but it's getting really interesting now

this is literally like all of nick cave's thematic interests and obsessions and influences from the birthday party/early bad seeds era got mixed up and vomited back up into a nightmarish bilgey bile spewing fever dream of a book

if the next 200 pages are as good as the first 120 this might actually be my favorite nick cave thing ever and thats a lot coming from me
