Miss Ill-Kept Runt: always struggle with Hirscberg, such a slog to read, but i liked this one, despite falling asleep multiple times. Bad ending though. Terrible ending.

Very weak opening. Protagonist is already unlikable and whiny, and there are so many characters introduced early on I had to make notes. Feels like a DNF waiting to happen, but I'm going to give it some more pages to win me back.

Morgan Parker poems did nothing for me. Loved Hilton Al's photos and context. Philip Williams poems were challenging, but after several reads, I did like them. Pay Attention - entertaining. Schiff interview - interesting. Shaughnessy poems - good.

I took a long break from this one, and having returned, I can confirm that it is a nice story burdened with far fetched moments and over writing.

Still enjoying this, though the 'wonder' has faded a bit for me in the middle.

Very breezy, almost sitcomesque, not even murder mystery (yet) that takes place at Bob Newhart's hotel in Vermont. I keep waiting for the three Darrel brothers to show. Close to a DNF at this point, sadly. It's saving grace for me is that it reads so quickly.

Still diggin it, but not as much now as I did at the open. Not sure why. Maybe a little to specific to Vandermeer's own writing.

Eastern Forests-*** I like the natural description, but otherwise somewhat flat
There's Trouble Everywhere-***creepy tale of a blind homeless man
What this stands for-***love this one but didn't get it toward the end, everything appears to be things they're not?
Women in America-*****Wonderful, reread a must

I really love the setting and descent. Could do with a little less boob description.

Ruckersville did not work for me. Decent story, but writing felt clunky and the name construct felt forced initially, and totally contrived by the end. Gizzi's poem also fell short. The repeat line "when the, when my, etc", like in Mackie "now this is..." i find boring. though i like the strange continuity it brings to the issue.

Groffsky interview as boring and felt forced (and admittedly was), with a handful of interesting stories. Honestly, it's a skip for other readers. Both Patrick Mackie poems also did absolutely nothing for me. Contrived and boring. A sad start.
