Ugh. I really disliked "Many Waters" - the concept was irksome. Maybe the point that crystalized it for me was the gratuitous comment that so-and-so was more familiar because she lacked that "Oriental strangeness" of the other women with their almond shaped eyes and high cheekbones. Really, L'Engle? Publishing this sort of schlock in America of 1986?

I really liked "The Strange Crime of John Boulnois" - it's exactly the perfect balance for a Father Brown story.
