I went to start reading the second book, but I couldn't remember the details of this book well enough. So the second read came sooner than expected!

Through this whole series the antagonist has been a priest. In this book, the priest has a crisis of faith. He ends up choosing to have faith again. For a reader of faith, it's concerning.

The insults that monks throw at each other are among some of the greatest I've read. Worthy of Shakespeare, that master of mockery.

The trial I could have skipped, and the vision was rather unholy, clever as it was. Still, I carry on.

Plot: 4/5
Witticisms: 5/5
Fascinating history: 5/5

Long tangents: 2/5
There are plenty of long, seemingly tangential discussions. This would easily frustrate many people. I haven't minded because it's part of immersing myself in the history. And they do actually apply to the story. But occasionally it gets a bit tiring.

Have I gotten any homework done today? No. But have I thoroughly enjoyed the first twenty-two chapters of this book? Yes.

Spoiler Alert!

I've been so enjoying the familiar names in the chapter titles, and finally it dawned on me why - the chapters are named after the services of the hours! This whole time I've been wondering if certain holy days share the names of the hours, but finally I realized that no, it really is just the progression of the hours. Such a clever, hidden gem!

An absolutely amazing book! It is a fun read, and a must-read for every professor or curriculum designer. I love how it thinks of the end goal (what is expected of the professional in this field) from the beginning (therefore what should we teach, and what are we requiring that is unnecessary.)

I continue to be amazed by the way that Sanderson waves threads together throughout the series. Details connect in ways I never expected. The whole tapestry of the series is so beautifully complex that I only understand but a fraction of it reading the books the first time.

I'm really enjoying this biography of Manuel de Falla. It is the perfect mix of life story, contemporary events, musical analysis, and speculation on the extent of influences in his life. A very well-researched book, I'm enjoying the fact that the footnotes are at the bottom of each page, so I can read the additional notes and analysis right there without flipping back and forth.

Hi, everyone! I'm back from my mission after my two-year goodreads absence. I'm looking forward to discovering the good books that came out while I was gone, and diving into Spanish literature. If anyone has any recommendations (especially in Spanish) feel free to let me know!

I opened this book to look something up in chapter four. But I couldn't understand the jargon, so I looked at the next-most-relevant chapter, chapter five. Somehow that chapter is easier to understand, so now I've found myself reading this book, starting with chapter five. Lol.

At the end of the second book, I had a guess in mind as to what one of the plot's great secrets was going to be, and now it couldn't be any more obvious.
I'm actually a bit annoyed with how this book is going. It's from Ce'Nedra's perspective, and she annoys me SO much. It grates on my nerves. I could deal with an ignorant and clueless Garion in the first book, but I cannot put up with a shallow girl.

With both the first and second books in this series, I'm going to once again reaffirm my opinion that this is a series with enough violence and manipulation that I would advise careful consideration as to who reads it. Even just two years ago, I don't think I'd have been able to handle these books.
