"...my body was like a harp and her words and gestures were like fingers running upon the wires."

"All my senses seemed to desire to veil themselves and, feeling that I was about to slip from them, I pressed the palms of my hands together until they trembled, murmuring: "O love! O love!' many times."

Meh. Seemed more promising in the beginning.
Bland characters. Spare me of those dull young average schoolgirl heroines who wallow in self-pity (a la Twilight).
Nice descriptions of the surroundings though.

Kris is finished with Leaves of Grass
I don't only read Whitman, I breathe Whitman, read the lines again and again and again, and then some more.
I was moved to tears when I finished Song of Myself. I legit cried.

Once upon a time, Charlie boy wrote a nasty fucking essay denigrating the American Indian, and I'm still going to read his book (ok, I like guillotines and revolutions and it's about time I start reading Dickens) so it better be worth my while. On y va!

This is so boring I can barely read a couple of chapters a week. I think I'll celebrate when I'm finished with the damn thing. This could've been so much better if Lawrence criticized society more (he does it beautifully), instead of writing about burning loins and "molten wombs". Ughhh :SSS terriblee

"For, of course, being a girl, one's whole dignity and meaning in life consisted in the achievement of an absolute, a perfect, a pure and noble freedom." "There's lots of good fish in the sea... maybe ... but the vast masses seem to be mackerel or herring, and if you're not mackerel or herring yourself, you are likely to find very few good fish in the sea."

Re-reading a book you loved makes of you two a very special kind of conjoined twins. I am absorbing Jane's inner musings and observations, and every Rochester's line, and, as always, highlighting the shit out of this masterpiece. This has been, and is, the book of my life

"Everything with me is either worship and passion or pity and understanding. I hate rarely, though when I hate, I hate murderously. For example now, I hate the bank and everything connected to it. I also hate Dutch paintings, penis-sucking, parties, and cold rainy weather. But I am more preoccupied with loving" Hahahah

I definitely prefer the 'uber feminist essay-writing Virginia' to 'abstract, stream of consciousness Virginia'. Apart for a few stories like A Haunted House or A Society, the rest is a kind of a very sluggish torture, similar to being slowly killed by a dull instrument, like a spoon or something. If it weren't for this 2016 reading challenge, I would've just abandoned it. Oh well at least I'm getting educated
