They couldn’t dominate Death inside the hospital, but they certainly made her behave.

Ms Eclectic is on page 222 of 377 of The White People and Other Weird Stories
A Fragment of Life: reminds me of the dreamy, slow and detailed thoughts of the protagonist in to the Lighthouse (I’m aware the latter came after but I read them in the reverse order). More literally, it reminds me of Radiohead’s No Surprises - the slow death and narrowing of modern life brought on by losing sight of the world’s magic and beauty and instead focusing on money and things.

“To say that the interior of the hangar was vast would have been pointless, as the Great Library, Text Grand Central and the CofG also had vast interiors, and continued descriptions of an increasingly hyperbolic nature would be insufferably repetitious.”

Bit like a superhero movie series, perhaps? 😂

Ms Eclectic is finished with Goodbye to Berlin
“The Nazis may write like schoolboys, but they’re capable of anything. That’s just why they are so dangerous. People laugh at them, right up to the last moment.” P. 217.

Reminds me a lot of recent politics: Brexit, Trump.

If that’s not a good recommendation, I don’t know what is.

Reading this reminds me a little of reading The Odyssey. The book tells me what happened in sequential order without emotion or feeling or any real depth. It’s not what I expected and I’m not particularly enjoying it.
