Ugh so racist, it’s absolutely foul the things that the characters and the narrators say - black, Asian stereotypes and racism abound. Not sure what the worst was so far - calling the Chinese man a ‘pet’ or the general commentary about Brianna dating a black man… or was it the blackface joke. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.

Some of the humour in this is very off, like the date description- e.g. she was a brunette not a blonde etc has the characters crying with lAughyer m. Um, ok?

“But the silence in his ear was never more to be broken “ - what an eloquent way to describe death. Heartbreaking!

I feel a bit weird reading something set in Russia at the moment.

“If ever a place had a karma of damnation, it’s Rottnest. And all those slick galleries selling Aboriginal art… it’s as if Germans built a Jewish food hall over Bûchenwald”

“I gave you all the happiness I couldn’t have. You loved your husband, your marriage. Good for you. I survived mine”

The writing style is precise and almost factual in the way the story is delivered, reminiscent of a new Victoria mn era.

The two main characters are unlikeable and difficult to empathise with.
