Lots of talking again, I much prefer the audiobook as Andy Serkis' use of voices, and the tone he takes throughout the long descriptive passages makes them feel more brief

I'm finally listening to the audiobook at the right speed so I can remember what's going on. Tolkein connects his chapters well, making it feel seamless and logical. The writing doesn't feel as convenient as the first book, but there's still time for another Tom Bombadill appearance. The chapters are ridiculously long, which makes listening quite hard. It's not easy to pick up where you left off with no written word.

There is so much description. Some incredible metaphors and similes, incredible use of words. There are bits of description that feel unnecessarily long. I'm not sure if it helps to drive home the point or exhaust it. Intriguing enough to continue through the ridiculous page count.

"Magic is the Slmplest Thing" had a convenience to it. Dream sequences and clunky dialogue propel the narrative forward with hints and lore in a way that feels a bit juvenile for the sophisticated tone I am assuming it aims for.

Incredible descriptions and really captivating way of structuring the story. Many names thrown into the mix always confuses me a bit. Incredibly tiny writing, making it a hard book to read when tired.

There's a lot of black and white statements in this book. Not much room for grey areas in anything. Also incredibly repetitive and boring.

Each new perspective feels the same as the one before. I love a case study format but the author's voice comes through regularly, and he seems to think in black and white. The characters each offer an insight into cultural and national attitudes but come across as highly stereotyped and lacking much nuance. There isn't a single character worth remembering, not that you need to with this type of format!

Repetitive, unsurprising, long-winded. Needs a good edit to modernise it!

Not a huge fan of the narrator. Tone is a bit off. Interesting perspective. Short chapters always a plus. I hope I'm not in the beginning of an arrogant investigator character arc.
