Timetravel is bananas. Which coincidentally is a Kilgore Trout novel

Three quarters of the way through. It's taken me longer than I thought, but I always knew it would take this long. I've always arrived at 3/4 of the way through at this exact time. So it goes.

This book feels like a parody of Three Body. "There were five genders on Tralfamadore, but they looked identical to Billy because their gender differences were all in the fourth dimension."

Describing giraffes as "preposterously specialised" is hilarious.

"'Oh God,' said Barbara, and she turned her back on him. She celebrated frustration by clapping her hands."

Not sure where it's gonna go

I do like how Tolkien will always go for the most Germanic word. Every time I check the kindle dictionary for an odd-looking word, the origin always starts 'from old english...' as opposed to 'From Old French via Latin...' I mean, I know he was an Old English scholar but he seems to be really trying to return modern English to its roots.

Uh oh it's Tolkien's wild card: Tom Bombadil

Having read the Hobbit more than ten years ago now, it feels good to finally make a decent stab at the first part of LotR (I know it's not strictly a trilogy but rather one volume). Despite knowing the films very well I'm still finding the story so far interesting in the slight differences to the films.
