“professor fosca is so charismatic” prof. fosca has a reading club with only female students who he drinks with and reads off a wikipedia page for the eleusinian mysteries. i don’t think men should b allowed to use the persephone demeter story any more after this book

this book is so boring but i’m enchanted by the fucking. one dimensions way this author sees women. the working class women are weird and classless and rude and the upper class women are selfish mothering nurture figures and the men are three dimensional with even the man who handles keys having a rich backstory of his grandpa passing. like. this author hates women and also can’t write

also the first noted character of color, a sikh detective, is dismissive of women and a bad cop. lovely

woof this is not good. the way the MC really only ever functions as a wife in her flashbacks, a widow in the present, or a surrogate mother/nurturing figure to others, esp w how often and how she brings up her late husband makes me think the author wanted to write this w the man as the MC but realized the dead wife premise would look bad

so far this book has the worst “woman written by a man syndrome”
