I'm in this photo and I don't like it

I think something the book does pretty well is capture how alien you can feel as a gay boy, how much of your experiences are kept to yourself because they're unshared by your peers or you have to hide them to protect yourself, to be observing masculinity and boyhood from the outside while also being trapped inside a version of it no one else can see

This ides of March I'm celebrating by reading depressing queer fiction. Et tu, Brute?

It's giving brooding detective novel

"they were all that I could carry" takes me out every time

The book is incredible so far I keep reading and thinking wow I can't believe this exists. I'm also absolutely the target audience for this LOL

Okay but her father calling her to check in and reminding her that not feeling hungry is a symptom of grief, something he clearly learned from a book he was reading on the topic, does have me in tears. I was not expecting to cry today wtf dad

Also the way bree and her dad are grieving the same person while Bree is also acutely aware that their grief is so different is v good

I think I might DNF this book. I am just not that into it
