moreso realizing i really hate ana huang as a writer, because the way she writes is leaving out a bunch of information and just referencing it, but thats not a this book specific thing, it's a her problem

I think the writing is pretty cliche. But that's fine. I think that I don't want be romantic because they just shouldn't be. I want them to be friends because theo has too much going on anger-wise, he needs to work out with his family. and Gabby has too much going on anxiety and depression wise that he needs to work out in therapy. ( and also with his family)
The writing isn't prize winning, but it doesn't need to be

I'm startkng to notice ana has a problem, and it's putting character information/growth at the end of the book where it has the least amount of time to actually do anything. so it's going to be resolved super quick and with a lot of tell don't show writing that is boring and makes the already black be white characters seem even that much more flat.

I'm 40 pages in and I'm already more invested in both Kai and Isa as characters then Dante and Viv in the 1st. how TF did Ana Huang write these 2 books back to back

this book is good so far, I'm trying to not judge books by their covers/ blurbs as much as I use too and read them first.

first impressions(just finished chap 3):
- I don't really get Ellie, not bad I think Im just not reading her character right. but I wanna know more
- Miah's parents both being fairly rich and still wanting to live in the hood is an interesting detail that I want the "why" of to be revealed

2/2 so it's very hard to settle on how you feel about her. it's like she knows she's black but because she's around white people all the time, she forgets what her actual social standing is apart from her school one.
And Devon(the poor baby) is just me but a cis black boy. not to the extreme ness but in the character traits and personality, like everytime i read his chapters im like 'ooh thats just me isn't it'

Love Chiamaka, her character is portrayed in such a way that makes you sympathetic but also semi-apathetic to her situation. on one hand 'damn sorry this is happening to you' but also 'your friends with a buncha white people what do you expect'
