So far this sort of feels like The Selection meets The Hunger Games. I'm enjoying the narration but not sold on the world building/plot.

*insert eyeroll here* Apparently her chest is a fruit tray. And apples aren't particularly round actually?!?!?!

It was a CHOICE to not have the main character even in this book yet.

Dominic is so alpha and awful at communicating. If he were a bit less that, I would like this, I think. It also feels like the goal they're going to get to is not going to be the level of transformation I want.

I wish they'd hired narrators for both perspectives. Whyyyyy do they do this?

The flashbacks are annoying but at least those chapters are a good deal shorter.

What the first paragraph of the blurb explains easily, the opening chapter turns into a confusing mess. Not a good opening.

This has major Center Stage vibes! Only the love interest is the director, but that's okay because she's not a teenager in this one obviously.

I'm planning to try the audio because I think this is clever but I'm feeling distant from it.

Enjoyed this many moons ago, and I don't have a real issue with the start, other than that I'm not sure this is the sort of book I need to read twice. A bit too dark for me to want to do that.

Not sure if this is a good idea or not, but going to try rereading these before Empire of Dreams. I remember really not liking this one, but HECTORRRRRR

Dear god. Almost half of this is a preface of Shaw ranting about how much he hates and mistrusts doctors. Some of it is still relevant today, some not, but hoo boy do I not want to read 70ish pages of this. But I also feel like I can't DNF the play on the preface, but the preface comes first so I don't feel like I can skip it. :/

That moment when you realize that the book is part of a series. I definitely checked before requesting this on NG, but I guess it hadn't been linked up yet by a kindly librarian. Oh well. If this is good, the other three are on Scribd. WE SHALL SEE.

This isn't clicking for me. I may set this aside until Tuesday and try the audio.

Glad I waited a million years for the audio from the library, because this was a DNF for me in print, but I'm quite enjoying the audio!

For real, this heroine is basically a villain from Robin Hood. I kind of love her.

Enjoying so far! The heroine is a terrible person in the best way.

I find it hard to believe that this heroine, who has a lot of hiking experience, would make sooooo many rookie mistakes. She overpacked, she went alone, etc. Like, I know they're mistakes and I've never hiked (to the degree that you need any special gear or to carry your food) or camped.

Trying this again on audio, because I questioned my hasty DNF. I do think it's clicking for me this time, yay!

Even though this audiobook isn't full cast, the narrators are such good actors that it FEELS like a full cast. So glad I chose this format!
