I'm bored with this. Disappointed. Just broke down and read reviews. I'm about to do something I very rarely do, which is to skip through it. Bummer. I even voted it best in fiction before I'd read it out of my admiration for Murakami and my enjoyment of his previous novels and short stories.

Ideally I would have dozens of screens with all of the movies so I could refer to each of them as I read. Not interested in the financial aspect, and too much information on that. Not sure how much more I will read, but impressed with Woody's method of working, in all aspects. And his kindness and lack of ego, and that he doesn't believe in giving or receiving awards. Good scruples.

Initially I thought I'd previously read this. The whole campus thing so familiar, the parties, classes, roommates, dorms, bars.
Glad i didn't attend college, other than city college.
The whole academia thing is so self serving. Like an ouroboros.
It's really another world.
I'm not into the classics, so can't relate on that level.
Not interested in religious studies either. Seems I've run out of room to say any more

The college scenes so familiar I initially thot I'd read this previously. The classes, the parties especially, the bar scenes. Madeline is such a shallow little twit; don't like her or her sensibilities. I find Leonard interesting because I had a brother who was bi-polar. I like Mitchell the most. I'm glad I didn't attend college. Academia is its own little world, like an ouroboros. Seems to exist only to support its

Having a difficult time reading this. Too many voices, characters, bits and pieces. A couple of pages now and then, i suppose I will eventually wade thru it.

Sutter Lee is starting I See by My Outfit
After I recommended Beagle's A Fine and Private Place to George Saunders during a booksigning last month, I read Beagle's bio on Wikipedia and learned of this memoir. I'm totally enjoying it. I'm just a few years younger than Beagle, so remember the early 60s very well. It's great to see this era through his eyes, his journey. How much has changed in so many respects in 55 years.

Curled up last night for a bit of a read before sleep, opened this book I'd just ordered from library.
Oops, not the novel I expected. Makes me crazy. I did laugh about the Clark Gable type grandfather and his 16 children via the "fucked-into-the-ground Carol Lombard. Fragmented flow of consciousness and confusing who is saying thinking what isn't my cuppa. Just read fascinating range of readers' responses.

All that I hoped for. Knowing his voice so well, I can hear it in my head as i read. I'm making copious margin notes and underlinings. At some point I will get on CD and listen.

Gasp, gasp ! Ordered from library, picked up yesterday. It's HUGE, thick and large pages, and it's heaven to look thru, read the bit of text; her self portrait in pen and ink and watercolor magnificent. Want a copy to frame, hang. She's my alter ego, and I thrill to share her life, see my not-quite life, thru her eyes, sensibilities. Now I MUST buy a copy so I can peruse it at my leisure, altho cramped for space.

Read a short story by Lauren Groff recently in New Yorker that I liked a lot, but for some reason she wasn't listed in the contributors. So I looked her up and selected this one from library offerings and ordered it. I have high expectations.

It's been necessary to suspend belief. That's right. Too unbelievable for nonfiction.
If our finest writers were asked to tell the tallest tales possible, no paranormal allowed, I doubt that any of them could top Walters' hilarious stories. His hitchhiking road trip leaves Hunter S. Thompson's "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and Tom Wolfe's "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" snorting exhaust fumes.

250 more pages of suspending belief. That's right. It's an easier read if I believe it is fiction. Were our finest writers challenged to tell the tallest tales they could, without delving into the paranormal, I doubt any of them could top Waters' stories. His hitchhiking road trip leaves Hunter S. Thompson's "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and Tom Wolfe's "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" in exhaust fumes. Hilarious.
