Definitely an interesting read. My favorite chapter so far is "Vividness."
Issues so far: I suspect that Mendelsund is using phenomenology as a cover for his own personal experiences with reading. In terms of phenomenology, he doesn't disclose a method, purpose, plan. Also, his scheme doesn't account for gendered readings or the work of science in the field of reading.
