Still funny, but I sort of wish I had a paper copy (not the ebook version) because I would be more apt to pick it up and read it regularly. It's on my computer and I sort of forget about it.

I'm at a section where one of the kids gets caught making graffiti on the playground wall. Not profanity. A math problem. If only .... And there is a section that has "fart" jokes, which no elementary classroom is without (here on Earth anyway)

There is a section here where the students all raise their hands to answer a question, and the one Jack calls on ... has no answer. I can't tell you how many times I have this happen to. Why do they raise their hand? Why? The kid in the book is at least honest: "I got nothin'." That's more than I usually get.

It's the end of November for me but for fictional Jack Woodson, it is still October. I feel as if his timeline is closing the gap to mine. In the recent email to his buddy, Woodson has Dr. Seussian rhymes in his head as his kids struggle to answer a math problem. (One student answers the question of when would round a number with, “At my house, in the car, in a tree, at the school.” Funny.

Kevin Hodgson is finished with Hanging Out, Messing Around, and Geeking Out: Kids Living and Learning With New Media
Just finished & I am happy with final conclusions here. The authors nicely wrap up their ideas around how & why youth are using media and technology, & then pose some difficult but important questions about how adults (parents, teachers, mentors) can provide the creative space needed for learning. They also note the impact of access/no-access for young people. Lot here to think about ...
