I don't like that a lot of the things are kind of assumed and brushed off, e.g. she likes the city. Ok, but has she gone around it? It's insinuated, but we've not experienced it with her. The tarot scene could've been great if she voiced her concerns, and it is in character cos she has said all these other seemingly stupid things. Instead she is talked at.

Background explanations right at the beginning of the book are becoming a bit of a pet pieve for me ngl. I am really rooting for this book so I hope it goes somewhere good.

I just read the most insane couple of sentences ever. Why put it like that? Why say that? Do you really think that was heartwarming??? I hated that, thanks.

Not a romance person BUT I kind of enjoyed the romance in the 1st book. That being said, we finally get the anticipated scene (and for me dreaded) which was meant to be romantic but for me it felt hollow. I think the romance fails a bit here because of the difference of Matthew compared to book 1, and this was just a vague awkward scene I couldn't care less for. Also it's the 16th century - nothing hot about that imo

Not done - Also I have a problem, once again with Dr Diana Bishop, a historian and the most powerful witch, a 33 year old, acting like a child. Even more so in 1590 than before. Surely a historian would not be so naive as to think she knows more than a man who has lived through the time? Another thing that takes me out of an otherwise interesting story.

"There were other de Clermonts I knew: Godfrey, Louisa, and Hugh (who received only brief, cryptic mentions)" Deborah you're killing me. I get that this is book 2, and technically i shouldn't have gone from one to another in a matter of minutes, but can you PLEASE leave something for me to read between the lines??? I've skipped enough summary paragraphs but this one was ridiculous. Taking me out of the story...

More wine. Just fyi last chapter was quite important cos she gave blood to a bunch of scientist vampires (for some reason all the vimpires' names start with M. Makes it easy to differentiate clearly)
I'm not fully hating cos I want to keep reading. I just wish the writing was better and the romance wasn't such a given. Hopefully the actual story becomes more of a focus soon cos that is the interesting part.

WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT?? I couldn't help but suspend my disbelief. She's a thirty something year old, acting like the dumbest person ever. No context would make me forget that I am discussing wine with a VAMPIRE that can rip my throat any second. Why tf would you ask 'what do you think i would taste like?'?? IN THE FRENCH MANNER??? Also stop calling her apartment the rooms I hate it almost as much as I hate the over explanations. I couldn't care less about what she was choosing to wear for this stupid date and what she has in her warderobe.



I'm here for the plot, the magic and the library. I want to know what Ashmole 782 has in it and I want to know why the magical thing about daemons is 'they're really creative.'

The author going in excruciating detail of mundane routines that bring nothing to the story can be so painful at times. But I'm not here for fabulous writing, I am here for some witchy vampire plot. Still, you can cut this book in half without useless descriptions. Oh also - the in depth mirror description of our main character, and so so much eyes and eyebrows from our love interest, GIRLL

Sometimes, joy comes in the simplest forms, like reading nearly 700 pages of a book where the main character releases a breath they didn't know they were holding.
