Brendan Donovan is on page 58 of 382 of Red Rising (Red Rising Saga, #1)
Hunger Games + Brave New World + Irish people(slaves) on Mars. pretty good, tragic start.

As an adult reader in 2025, using a strict color system for class hierarchies feels very YA dystopian (even though Huxley maybe did it first?), as it was overdone in the post-hunger games era, and it’s just…very…silly.

Otherwise, compelling writing, world building, emotion. Glad to see a series like this get popular

He started the book using the same literary device as Herbert used at the start of Dune so that’s -1 point off the bat. Otherwise enjoying it so far, we’ll see

Officially past the point of the first movie
Very interesting to see the minor points shifted in time or completely changed for the movie. Mostly good.
Frank H still king of lore. This book is now feeling very long but here for it

Ripping through this.
Frank H may be the king of lore.
It’s making me appreciate the movie more because the adaptation actually improves on the storytelling in several ways. Things happen/are revealed much earlier in the book than the films—holding the info back makes for more suspense, more surprises, more impactful twists, more satisfying beats overall. All hail Dennis I can’t wait to rewatch the movies after
