Fascinating discussion of Saint Patrick and the cultural incentives for the Irish to become Christians. Religious sacrifice for guilt, something which the author rightly recognizes as universal in some way, is fulfilled in Christ, and the Irish (who once sacrificed humans and animals to their pagan gods), can now serve a God who demands their lives, not their deaths. Good stuff.

Enjoying it so far. Not agreeing with every extent or application I'm seeing, but appreciating it nonetheless.

Really fascinating book so far—Cahill is doing a lot of groundwork at the beginning in order to built up to his main argument, but I'm not minding at all, because the content is so interesting in and of itself.
