The sonata form is usually three movements of a large solo instrumental work with orchestral backing - but it implies, being typically a piano piece, delicacy in its robustness of structure, developing from a fast first movement through an adagio or andante to its finale. We've had the opening allegro, and are now into the core of its sadness in the andante... and, like the sonata, it echoes forth and back in time.
