The short story Metamorphosis is kinda morbid but I like the way it ends

Night Birds is so far my favorite short story from this compilation.

And ghosts are a little like that. They seem human, they seem smart, but they’re really just a sliver of a person that is compelled to repeat itself.

Just read the short story My Sad Dead and it blew me away. It is so good!

The world has become a wound I cannot bear to look at.

I feel it in my bones.

The sensory details are just too exquisite. I am in love with the metaphors used in this book.

Life, life is always a surprise. Just when you think you have got the hang of it, have learned your part to perfection, someone in the cast will take it into her head to start improvising, and the whole damned production will be thrown into disorder.

How simple and dull and disappointing things become when they are explained.

I am inclined to agree with Alex here. There are so many possibilities in ambiguity.

What is happiness but a refined form of pain?

I agree.

And finally the first chapter comes to an end...

He wanted to live life so intensely that he could die at any moment without regrets.

This line resonates with me on a personal level.

Perhaps I have at last become my own ghost.

The descriptions are hauntingly beautiful, but this is a very difficult book to read. One has to be in the right mindset for it.
