I arrived at a scene that had been partly spoiled by various illustrations before and it was even more horrid than I imagined. I can't really think of an author that makes me squirm quite the way Abercrombie does when he sets his will to it.

"Nice clean murders? I doubt it. You set your mind to killing, it's hard to pick the number of the dead."

The disjointed reread continues as I went back a couple of chapters at first, finished the Sipani part only to backtrack and reread the entirety if the first two parts again, which having done it, was absolutely the right choice.

Looking forward to read ahead into the unexplored regions of Best Served Now.

Listening to this on audiobook and the narrator is doing a fantastic job with it.

Coming directly into this after reading The Dragonbone Chair had me impressed with the way Tad Williams does his exposition, I was skeptical of the by the way-y explainations of the magic system and it left me a bit cold on m at the start of the novel but the characters and plot have since won me over in a huge way.

Returning to this novel and the First Law universe after what has been a mind-boggling nine years since I finished The Last Argument of Kings is overdue and mixed experience.

Several years ago, in the final days of my doomed quest to beat back uni burnout , I read the first 130 pages or so of the novel but I found my mind blind to all it was trying to do, reading was a chore and a pain.

This return has been better.
