This started off so well and now it's meandering into clueless white guy land, going on about how tenacious George Saunders was in his youth, but he's really telling us about the chances Saunders got, and the people who helped him out. You know who was actually raising hell in the seventies? With no safety net? Not white guys with mentors coaching them through college, that's who. Gumption, my ass.

Hoyt had a golden opportunity to make this romance the littlest bit queer and she didn't take it, she buried it under a pile of debris, and I'm disappointed.

I am unduly proud of how good I am at spotting audio narrators. This book brought to you by the voices of: Child 44, Thomas Crown Affair, that one L&O judge, aaaand Sarah Jones from literally everything.

I don't know remotely why I'm enjoying this book. Except that I went to Episcopal school for nine years and some of my religiously diverse family members are uptight upstate NY Anglicans. So I'm totally convinced that someone in the congregation did it. Obviously.
