Dare I say… the story has a bit too much… smut?

Like, I’m waiting for the plot to catch up.

What is…happening? Way too much going on already in this book. Extended families, a dog that can order DoorDash, lots of banter… Except I literally don’t get it. So it’s not cute or funny because these characters mean nothing to me. And the explosive argument in the first chapter? Made no sense. Who would say that about a young person‘s boobs… Are we supposed to like him?! And why is she in love with him

The one blonde bro knows her name and suddenly she’s lying awake at night, smiling to herself, picturing herself sitting with him at lunch?

Maybe I’m just too old to read high school romances. Because that shit is embarrassing.

It’s been at least one month Since i DNF’d a book. Exciting times!

Something about the female friendships in this book is putting me on edge. It’s giving major toxic vibes. And when I think about it, there were no female friendships in the other KV Rose books I’ve read.

Trippy start

“I was The Princess and the Pea. Except the pea was the twisted dejection I was almost killed and then promptly forgotten by a man who fingered me on a secret camera and sent the video to my papa. Gen-Zs wouldn’t know romance if it hit them with a bus.”

I’m sorry… what?? What is that last line? Why include it? Is it supposed to be smart? I’m annoyed with this writing. Don’t remember that from book 1.

I was expecting something really good (and really dark) based on the reviews for this book, but 11% in and it’s just this dumb as fuck, fairytale romance. And the girl, I’ve already forgotten her name, is really immature. She just found out she has a whole other family? And her mom was an opera singer who died young? And she ran away to Moscow and got attacked? But none of that seems to matter? Just heart eyes.

Oooooookay. Did not realize this is a five book series. Not sure I can commit to that.

Wait.WAIT. I thought Rae was supposed to be smart, and dedicated, and serious about her investigations. But we’re now a quarter of the way through this book, and she has somehow accidentally raised a demon in order to increase her YouTube channel followers?! She’s dumb as shit. That is extremely disappointing. And why is Leon into her? I literally have no idea. She’s not impressive. At all.

I don’t think I like this. Cheyenne is supposed to be all quirky and cute, I think, but it’s not at all working for me. Like, at all. The inner monologue and the first time she actually speaks? Absolute cringe. If it continues, I’ll have to put this book down.

And suddenly, Sasha is totally naïve, incompetent, and dumb. She was so fucking awesome in the first book. This is a disappointment.

Ugh ick. This better get twisted again real soon.

This isn’t as dramatic as some of the other Kent universes I’ve fallen into (not that I don’t very much enjoy that shit too). It’s almost clinical, or precise. Which makes sense given a military setting. But now, the setting has shifted significantly. I just hope it doesn’t change the tone of the book.

Everybody in this book is 6’4”. It’s just an nba team of men preaching tiny crazy Luna.

I’m stuck on a scene at 34% of this book. Like I can’t get through it… Every time I read it I fall asleep or I put it aside or I think of something else I would rather be doing… Is the scene too long? Like what’s going on here.

I don’t get it. Is Ali supposed to be a psychopath, or just a bitter hormonal moody teenager?

Neither one is landing right now.

Finally. Finally! The girl learns how to speak up for herself… Damn.

Only 9% in, and I’m pretty sure this book isn’t for me. One of my pet peeves when trying a new author is when they write a group of girlfriends as if they’re playing out a scene from sex and the city. Some trendy but dumb sounding bar? ✔️ Not so-witty banter about penis size? ✔️ They only talk about dating? ✔️ They abbreviate the name of every item on the menu? ✔️

So far, so annoying.

Hold up. This is set in Philly? I was looking forward to some irish castles/fog/hills. Wth.

Also, he’s been obsessed with her for a year already at the BEGINNING of the book. Don’t like that.

So much going on in this book. I’m in the third plot already. And not even halfway through. It’s a bit much.

OK. At first I wanted somebody to come in and help Kira. But now I’m just annoyed. Girl, please don’t go hiking the day after your heart attack? What the fuck is wrong with you?

Less than 10% in and this book is already giving me severe anxiety. I’m gonna need somebody to come in and start fixing these girls lives. Soon.

I can’t really explain why I’m still reading this… It has gotten so boring. I guess I just keep hoping that Leon will kill Kai. That would help. But I don’t see it happening. Unfortunately. What a disappointment.
