Not sure what I was expecting, but this book is really pulling me along. Very Canadian, but with a touch of the "recent immigrant trying to establish themself" which still resonates today. I love the idea of this young girl learning how to thrive in a male dominated family and world. Staring down her Scottish father and nurturing the inner seed that will presumably serve her through life. Looking forward to the rest!

I bought this used in Powells, Portland, and was ecstatic to have found a "new" Wyndham title. Took me a couple of pages, but I slowly realised I'd read it before. Turns out "Re-birth" was the US title for "The Chrysalids". Oh well - a cracking good yarn deserves a re-read, so what the heck...
