I do not think Camus has written a substandard work. His portrayal of Jean-Baptiste Clamence is incredible; the character is so deluded and inspired as he tells his silent listener what a great man he is.

Interesting, but do not expect an engaging plot. I find Leopold Bloom interesting, but not Stephan since he is so young and even though he desires to become a poet, he seems more interested in being a scholar. But beware, Stephen’s mind is quite allusive and flits from subject to subject, which makes it difficult to follow his train of thought.

What connects the two is that they are interested in women.

I‘ve finished two of the tales of the pilgrimage: the priest and the soldier. They’ve encountered the Shrike in the past and the future.

Quite good. The temptation of AI and the intrigue of a spy novel all set in the last bastion of "pure" humanity.

Kassad nodded. The day grew warmer as the canvas awning snapped, the decks creaked, and the levitation barge Benares worked its steady way upstream toward the mountains, the moors, and the Shrike.

Now part Canterbury Tales, part Heart of Darkness. Compelling and imaginative.

Much better than I thought it would be. The Canterbury Tales set in the future.

A bit sluggish. Not as good as I thought it would be.

Past family and social life of Part One and into the military life and the war of Part Two.

Interesting mix of romantic love and a deadly disease.

A political assassination in Russia, a betrayal, and the narrator’s occupation with the difference between how Westerners and Russians think.

Yakov has become a public figure and his guilt or innocence is discussed all over Russia. The prosecutors and the national government are confused as to which way to go; Yakov’s case has become politically complicated. However, I sense there will be no winners.

The story has become a jailhouse story about a man called Yakov who spends most of his time in solitary. The prison conditions are horrible, and what's worse, he is innocent. His case has become political; nothing about guilt or innocence at all.
