I cannot stand the mmc in this book. He had no redeeming qualities and lies about things just to get reactions from people.

Just as lyrical and beautiful as The Murmur of Bees

My opinion hasn’t changed. The actual investigation and mystery is intriguing but it’s washed out by the flippancy of the mmc, his constant sexualization of women, constant testosterone fights and measuring contests 🙄
So far the FBI guy is the only one not being a prude and I can tolerate the fmc.

You can tell this book is written by a man, with the constant sexual jokes and dark humor. Though it fits the disgruntled NYC homicide detective, it’s jarring to read. We will be in first person for a good chunk then have one or two sentences in third person (like the narrator decided to butt in), then goes back to first. The story is fine, so long as they stay on target with no rabbit trails 🙄

Im not a fan of this one. The romance happened very quickly and it romanticizes toxic and self-destructive behavior. (I know I shouldn’t do this but that’s a problem for later me when I know I’m going to be completely devastated) So far it’s sitting at a 2.5/5
