Starling is on silver light which acts a lot like an inverse black hole. Same time dilation effect. Big glowing light is where it gets its name which I think is a portal to Yollen.

The entity wanted to cause fear before striking and showed S visions of her life as a reject. The rest of the crew dump investiture from the ship which the entity feeds on long enough to let S and the strangers escape. They give her a map as payment which leads to Dusks planet. S thinks it’s fake but Ed believes. Will investigate when they get back to silver light.

Silver is 10k years old and considered to be middle aged.

Starlings crew mutinies from crow (who I’m sure we are not done with yet) to save some travelers being tracked by an entity.

Starling jumped off her ship and projected a dragon form of herself to try to scare the entity. The entity was hungry instead

The monster grows 100s of multijointed arms and attacks them saved only by Zs expert flying. It seems like S.L. Knows a dragon killed by a thermedine monster but wants to save the people anyways.

We learn whatever she did to get banished had to do with saving someone.

They investigate a distress call which crow wants to salvage (on paper, it seems like she lets SL rescue the people) letting the people Be killed by an anti investigate monster the size of a building.
The monster is from threnadine, I think the same spot as the ghost is from and the planet The shadow of Silence in the forest of Hell is told. Don’t remember too much from this book.

Hoid has apparently visited the grand apparatus and solved a murder there. Maybe something we will hear more about in the hoid story’s collection. Makes you wonder how Z escaped though because they were described as slaves to the sleepless.

Leonore is a souther scadrian which we can tell from the wooden mask. They are the pilot.

The sleepless doctor is pissy, which, okay, it’s fair when the crew all wants it dead or gone.

Zeezti is a human with feathers born in the grand apparatus (I remember Brandon talking about this). It’s a pre shattering structure of moving houses

D is trying to find ways to navigate in the unsea. No luck so far but he does run into a big serpent that hunts by reading minds. His new bird saves them but he wants to try to hunt the serpent in return.

The captain of starlights boat is none other than captain crow from Tress. She is still serving xsis the dragon starlight sold her too. Crow is taking medication to stop Arther infection

Jumping 50 years of starlight time and she is also tracking shadesmar but in a real ship. She has been training with hoid in how to be a leader but as always he remains elusive.

S trries to get the best from her crew, helping a young engineer return home and trusting the sleepless hoid invited on board to be the doctor.

Starlight, exiled for doing something she should have none better of, is stuck in human form

Present day
D finds carvings, that sounds like the endpapers of this book. Which he thinks proves that C came from shadesmar.
The senate it trying to out V for listening to D so he decided to take the little boat and a second bird and head out on his own.


Note on shadesmar, the land and sea are inversed from the natural world so he should be able to find land pretty fast. Should

After escaping the Dinos D&V head to the camp where they learn the machine has not been turned on but opened. (This is the first thing I remember reading from the original). The scadrians left a manual of how it works as if in accident to help speed up the islanders evolution. If they understood space tech it means they had the right to invade so it was a trap. This is what caused all the aviar to freak earlier

Vanthi shoot small cannon at the deadmaw (dinosaur) spearing it in the chest. In its dying breath it screams for help. Help arrives!
It’s more Dino’s, and they’re pissed.
D goes up river then into the cavern where the aviar gain their talents. The area is filled with glowing worms that are parasitic and grant powers to the aviar. The use the fruit of a chocobans fingers to lure the Dino’s away.

Cokoban traveling from shadesmar (in the darkness) musts mean he is a world hopper. I assume that the serpent he defeated was a dragon who we will eventually meet.

This is time jumped quite a bit from either of the Main series so it’s possible we know him from something else.

Present day.
D sees Vs corpse in a vision which inspires them to fight back somehow. They know about shadesmar and how to get there but have not had success once there.
There is a pool of investiture on the Pathi that leads you there if you think about going.
D believes his people come from there.

Panthi has been industrialized. Trees gone, Aviar being farmed, they haven’t yet figured out how to replicate sak

Flashback
D & V climb a tree to enter a safe house. aviar nests at the top. All the aviar freak out sending him visions of thousands of corpses. V reveals that her team planned on turning on a machine to locate all the aviar. Knowing something is wrong they head to the camp to stop them. Doing so at night scares them but they didn’t have a choice.
Chapter ends with deathmaw (collosuol dreadmaw?)

We see space age scadrians who are using metal to push there ships around as well as a Rotarian in full shard armor who flew there, not sure who this is but he can fly so possibly a wind runner.

They both want the aviar

A local trading company hired vanthi (noted for her unnatural name as most people have a name from mature) to help scout out the islands resources. The group was attacked by an ocean shadow

We keep switching back and forth between when the scadrians first arrived and 5 years later when they have nearly coarsed/concoured dusts people.

Dusk is an aviar trapper who worked on the big island called panthi. This island was extremely dangerous and only the most skilled could survived minutes on it.

Aviar are parrot like birds that have powers. Seen in SA with lift and Marize. Dusk had two, sak (cover photo) who showed him visions warning of possible death and another who protected his mind.

Also on the island are psychic mice, deadly trees…

Starlight is 30 but appears to be about 8. He uncle, Frost, who good definitely has talked to appears about 60 making him about 220 if the translation matches up. I don’t actually think it does though I bet he is much older.

Dragons spend the first 30 years of there lives on mortal form before transforming into a dragon in the morning light of there 30th b day. Appears they can change at will after this

Today is the day starlight transforms into a dragon. I picture her as a young girl maybe (visibly) 13-16 with alabaster skin and pale white hair.

Blunt but present descriptions (it was just…less dark)

The little girl shows up at school and one again jade can’t see her. She is making more and more sketchy decisions like skiooibg study sessions to smoke with the stoner kids blah blah blah.

When she gets to her first shift in ward D she is not so thrilled to realize her ex boyfriend will
Be working with her for the night. She likes the attending who is a hottie but also very compassionate.

Amy is big stressed about her night shift brought upon by the fact her friend who was in ward D told her she belonged there not her. We cut back to when the pair was younger and get a hint the Amy sees people who are not really there and tell her to do bad things. Comes in the form of a little girl who might not have been there.

Story is non linear, again really focused on Stuff so far

First person pov. Amy is a young women working in a psychiatric facility while in medical school. She uses humour to get around awkwardness and likely became a med student because her childhood friend was in ward D.

Descriptions so far are sparse, mostly on personal attire or material things.

Several notes on her being a good listener

Book starts with a letter or maybe email to Ms Brenner basically teller her all the things not to do while working on a shift in ward D. It is implied that the patients are dangerous and should not be trusted in any manner. You should leave unless it’s an emergency and the night shift is expected to stay awake. Sounds like a fun job.

Cpt 1: light funny tone. Lots of interjections, almost every other sentence

She gets the car moving and chases after the helicopter but it leaves before she gets there. Kelly manages to find a terminal listing boathouse which was on the scrap of paper in Levine office from
Earlier in the book. They get out of the gas station now surrounded by raptors because it’s daylight and the camp-saurs have left.

They make it there and get off the island without tooo much issue.
