I'm reading this via Net Galley. I think it is out in the UK but released tomorrow in the US of A. I've read Chapter One and the Introduction.

Despite having a pile of library books that I am supposed to finish by the 4th September 2025 I picked this up. This edition has a really interesting introduction by Ed McBain (which is a pen name I've discovered.) So I've only just reached page 1 of the actual novel.

One of the sections I just read is 'The Book of Siege', which is about Beirut and Lebanon under attack in the 1980s (as well as being in the grips of a civil war), but some of it sounds like a contemporary poem about Gaza. It is incredibly powerful.

I read this about ten years ago. Not that my brain really remembers any of it. It might as well be a brand new read.
