I finished Casanova's Chinese Restaurant. Onto 'The Kindly Ones'.

Finished 'At Lady Molly's'
Which was fabulous. Very preoccupied with marriage (and marriages not happening.) Funny. And Widmerpool is one of the great characters in literature.

The classic problem of a book like this faces me: do I disrupt my reading by constantly flicking back and forth to the endnotes or just plough (pun half-intended) through to the end. I feel the latter is better.

Reminds me a bit of Frederick Forsyth. Solid, stark writing but the desire to infodump the research, which occasionally slows things down. However, you do find yourself wanting to read on to see how it pans out.

The description of the city at the beginning of Chapter One is great. This was written in 1954, which makes it feel slightly noir from 2025. Whether that was the intent or not.
