Really enjoying this one. The author is a painter with words, creating images of the artists’ lives and struggles. So far, he has touched on Van Gogh, Caravaggio, and Rembrandt. Much of the stories is sad, but he skillfully weaves the gospel into the rise and fall of tension.

Easily the best book I’ve read on the Christian life.

This book has been an incredibly refreshing, encouraging and practical read on the ordinary means of grace. I just finished chapter 3, which I’ll probably go through again (The Young and the Restless). Horton provides thought provoking insights on the relationship between spiritual development and our obsession with novelty.

Having a really hard time getting through this one. Waiting for some mention of redemption. Very intellectual, stimulating, and thought provoking, but really lacking that practical element that crossway usually brings implements so well.
