I haven't read this since freshman year of college; those years have given me a perspective that allows me to understand the book on a deeper level. Although I certainly enjoyed the book in college, I feel like I can actually understand many of the more nuanced points being made by Quinn through Ishmael. Have covered our creation myth and the problem it poses... looking forward to reading about the proposed solution.

So far, very intriguing. I have no idea what direction it will go. There are allusions, but I get the feeling it will go an entirely different direction.

To quote Django Unchained: “You had my curiosity; now you have my attention.”

Much like the first book of Chiang's that I read (Stories of Your Life), many of the stories thus far are hit and miss. That said, it is more hit than miss this time around.

I enjoyed the story "Exhalation" for which the book was named quite a bit. And "What's Expected of Us" is the kind of little mindworm that will get inside your head for days after you've finished it.

"The Lifecycle of Software Objects," meh.
