I understand what the author is trying to do here, but yeah, no thank you. This is one definitely one of those "write what you know" situations.

I feel like this part of the story would be better if there was negative space. But it's all filled in. You can research a subject all ya like, but sometimes the best way to truly know is to live through it. The author is clearly detached from the subject at hand.
