so good, i can’t help comparing it to my favorite, house of leaves

decided to read along after re-listening to first arc; love how the changed a few things to better support the long term narrative. I’m very hopeful that they’ll finish the series, it would be so satisfying to read the ending…

incredibly compelling! So far feels like a mix between “the three body problem” and “house of leaves” Really interesting perspective on the transfer of information.

nearly done- the characters in this book are fantastic. they have so much personality, their ideologies are mostly clear (even if that clarity is that there is no understanding the actions of higher beings)

(spoiler) the loss of Wednesday was a shock to be sure. obviously one expects him to be present for the climax, especially being the god(s) he is. Sniped in the face… what a way to go.

RIP Sweeney

The characters are very interesting. So far, the writing style is tastefully removed- when something surprising happens, there’s no reaction from the text (and often no reaction from Shadow, the protagonist.) It leaves you in the perspective of semi-understanding, that the things happening are not known to you, and yet not necessarily unnatural. I’m curious of Wednesday’s goals…

i’ve gotten past part one. i’m a fan of the nuclear sanity of the characters, though i do think it’s pretty clear they’re actually being hunted

i’m enjoying the characters a great deal more. it feels like the judge, the kid, and a few others are getting the chance to be more than just violent. there is still a great deal of violence

they really did a whole genocide and the town treated them like heroes for it. very odd

i love basils character so far

the protagonist really hates his sisters kids. it reminds me of how i used to feel about kids. he definitely sees them as if they’re knowingly evil; maybe they are.

i’m looking forward to seeing what becomes of the woman in the barn

interesting so far- the setting is incredibly well realized. it seems like the majority of the book focuses on setting the atmosphere. everyone is behaving very brutally so far- i suspect this will not change. i’m not familiar enough with american history to know how accurate this representation is, but it’s compelling nonetheless

so far, so brutal- the way that clinical terms which are commonplace in the meat industry are simply recontexualized to humans does wonders to make the depictions seem that much more grotesque!
