it’s really interesting to see how deeply music really does affect community & politics

this book is very intriguing. a man is induced into a trance in 1887 and then awakes in the year 2000. the character from 1887 shares the same vocabulary and tone as the character from 2000 (which makes sense) but does, at least for me, take away from the immersion. but, i’m only 5 chapters deep, so cannot speak fully yet.

the last sentence of the introduction by cecelia tichi is bomb. “for americans have never abandoned the mission to transform a gilded nation into an exemplary golden one.”
i’m very interested to see how a book written in 1888 envisions the world in the year 2000.

i get how these books fit together in the sense they all take place in the same world, but, it does get old after a while.

this book is finally getting into a good flow….maybe because he’s talking music and that’s more my speed lol

it’s almost comical that everything that can go wrong, happens. it’s too predictable.

also, the oscar wilde poem, to me feels wildly out of place. the context of the poem does not fit the context of our story. that’s just interesting to me.

the book keeps progressing but it’s not very interesting 🤷‍♀️

i know i say this often about books that are this old; but, it’s so unfortunate that no matter how long it’s been, how little things change
