OK. I've heard of this house as the product of a crazy lady who believed in ghosts, but....
No.
It took until chapter 6/12 to get to the house. If I hadn't been so motivated to hear about the house, I'd have given up long ago. The lengthly history of her and her husband's history could have been so much shorter. ugh
Just know that you're going to have to go through how they got that pile of money first. meh

Only two brownie recipes. Lots of cakes I'll never bother making. Glad I can borrow it, and not have to buy it.

Don't even bother reading this without the audiobook as accompaniment. This is brilliant!!! New favorite. Chaucer's Canterbury Tales brought me back to 1967, in a heartbeat, and how I hated it then. Age has its compensations. This book is one.

I started reading this when it only had 80k ratings. I was so perturbed by the article about the Pill that I had to put it aside. The stupidity of men, particularly religious men, just pissed me off too much. They could have helped my health instead of helping to ruin it. Well, let's give it another go.
Gladwell's writing is so wonderful. His article about hair color and advertising and feminism is soooo good...

Oh, my, how lucky we are that Ralph Cosham recorded this before his death, which we mourn. I've read these stories so many times since 1960, and yet, I relish them once again.

Horrible narration. Sad. I had to listen, because the hard copy and the ebook were all unavailable.

WtHell is going on? Am I the only person on the planet who has listened to the first two books, narrated by Christina Moore, and been slapped with the far inferior narration by who? Ari Graynor?

What was Simon & Schuster thinking?

I guess I'll have to read this one. ugh

I see that my future audiobooks are back to Christina. Sheesh. Do they not get it?

Chapter 60, about keeping terminally ill people on ventilators, while acute patients from a pandemic who might be able to be saved and returned to society go without.
Yeah. This is the book you want to read right now. I don't think that I can just skim through this book before it goes back to the library later today. Some of the choices are just too hard to bear thinking about, here, and now.

Chapter 42 is really interesting right now, because it's about keeping super-spreaders of diseases in quarantine against their will. My, my, my.
Funny how we had only 2 cases of Ebola in this country. We just marked 130,000 deaths yesterday, one quarter of the world's deaths to date. We don't have a quarter of the world's population.
Hell of a job, Brownie!

The first part, Inside the Mind of a Doctor, was tough reading. Each case got more challenging for me to read.
Interestingly, no solutions are offered, only hypothetical cases, with some examples of historical incidents in the past.
I remember being young, and thinking that the line between right and wrong was clear and easy. This proves otherwise.

JZ is on page 60 of 363 of Votes for Women!: American Suffragists and the Battle for the Ballot
This is fascinating! Of course, none of this was taught in school. The women demanding the vote fought for abolition first, because black men were more likely to get the vote first. Damn!

I picked it up to see what all the fuss was about this crime, that I'd never heard of, but I am so fascinated that I finally know what started "yellow journalism" and how it got the name. I had no idea about the feud between Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst. Fascinating, and so well written.

Well, only chapter 4, and I'm ready to storm Congress. This is criminal. Do all politicians hate their mothers, and every one else's moms, too? Apparently so. This is infuriating. Women are more screwed than ever I thought.

I know that it's about Driving and the Authors are the authors, but I don't get a sense of Miss Norma other than a prop. She beamed is repeated so often that, well, I'm bored.
At the same time, I love that people responded well. We need more stories that warm the cockles, but if they'd been poor, this wouldn't have been the story it was. If they were in a junkie trailer, not so friendly. NBC doesn't come knocking.
