For no sooner did Abdullah ibn Lahsh read the contents of the Prophet's letter, which detailed the dangerous nature of the mission, than he said to his men "Whosever among you wants and desires martyrdom, then let him proceed forward. And whosoever hates for that to occur, then let him return. As for me. I’m proceeding forward as per the command of the Messenger of Allah". Ofcourse, all of his men followed his lead.

In Imam Shaafi’s discussion of analogy(Qiyaas), one of the major premises was that all events and occurrences must be subject to the ruling in Islam. Since Shariah embraces all things, there must be a ruling on every occurrence, either from a text or from an indication or evidence which the seeker can find. For Imam Shaafi, ijtihad on points for which there is no text or consensus can only be made through analogy.
