Maggie. Twisted Dragonflies > Recent Status Updates

This started really promising but has rapidly gone downhill for me, mainly because I'm finding the dialogue between the main fc and mc super cringe!

From what I remember from the 1st book, the world building was chaotic and all crammed into the first 100 pages, before switching to a much slower pace that was a slog to read. Just a short way into book 2 but it feels way more balanced and I'm pleasantly surprised how much more I'm enjoying it, fingers crossed that continues!

My original review still stands, there are some issues with this book, but it will remain a comfort read when I'm less than myself. Hence why I'm re reading it again now, instead of the next poppy war book! I'm getting over the flu, feeling sorry for myself and having little ability to concentrate on something new or in depth. This is an easy and entertaining enough read to distract me from my woes right now!

The Book that Wouldn't Burn was my favourite read last year, so book 2 was very much anticipated, alas (and I cannot believe I'm saying this), it's just not working for me. Not sure if what's wrong, maybe in the wrong mood but then again this is the second time I've picked it up this year book. I will finish it and I will read the third book, my hope is the feeling I got from the first book will return!

Apparently being ill all the time is making me feel nostalgic for my younger self, when I was carefree & obsessed with horses & wanted nothing more than for our family to inherit a old manor in the Scottish highlands, overlooking the sea, with a majestic chestnut arab mare to gallop across the beach and the moors. At least I really do have a beach I can escape to every day, even if I can't see from my home!
