Proust and the Sense of Time
Fabulous, and quite understandable, for something by Kristeva. She often confounds me with her intellect.

Simulacra and Simulation
“Simulation is infinitely more dangerous because it always leaves open to supposition that, above and beyond its object, law and order themselves might be nothing but simulation.”

“Is any given bombing in Italy the work of leftist extremists, or extreme-right provocation, or a centrist mise-en-scene to discredit all extreme terrorists and to shore up its own failing power, or again, is it a police-inspired scenario and a form of blackmail to public security? All of this is simultaneously true...

“Capital, in fact, was never linked by a contract to the society that it dominates. It is a sorcery of social relations, it is a challenge to society, and it must be responded to as such.”

Forget Foucault
I am a huge reader of Foucault, so I had to read this, dated as it likely is. Foucault isn't exactly of-the-moment, is he?

The Consumer Society: Myths and Structures (Published in association with Theory, Culture & Society)
I am unsure whether the book needed so many pages of introductory remarks. This Revised Edition has two Intros and I found neither to be anything but belabored attempts to summarize the book. Might have done better as Afterwords, since who wants a summary of an entire work prior to reading it? Not me, anyway.

Beyond Explicit: Pornography and the Displacement of Sex
"...is there anything more dull, opportunistic, and sterile than to succumb to the superego injunction of incessantly inventing new artistic transgressions and provocations (the performance artist masturbating on stage, or masochistically cutting himself; the sculptor displaying decaying animal corpses or human excrement), or to the parallel injunction to engage in more and more “daring” forms of sexuality? ”

Does the author work for Ford Motor Company?? Regardless, we sure know Nellie is driving a Ford Ranger, since it has been mentioned at least 4 times already, for no apparent reason. Weird.

Democracy in the Political Present: A Queer-Feminist Theory
Unfairly or not, the notion "queer-feminist theory" so far hasn't shown itself. It is entirely possible the title is self-referential, but it has the appearance right now of being "click-bait-y", and that is not scholarship to me.

OK, I will finish this, but it is so non-academic and merely a TERF treatise spewing hate about trans people. UGH. And she claims to be feminist? Oof.

Just going to say I am appalled Routledge would publish this. But I am reading it so I can shred the author's hateful "theories".

Our History Is the Future: Standing Rock Versus the Dakota Access Pipeline, and the Long Tradition of Indigenous Resistance
I am unsure why I am reading this. I am convinced we will not stop the Capitalists torching the planet for wealth and power, and that makes me sad and mad as hell. Still, one can bask in the afterglow of resistance, feel some warmth, and bring some light to the darkness. A bit, maybe.
